Four children make a mysterious discovery on their home planet, which causes them to get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law in «Skeleton Crew» and other stars from a galaxy far, far away. The holographic circus that entertains Neel’s younger brothers is the same one watched by Chewbacca’s family in the infamous The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978).
Skeleton Crew is a TV series aimed at children
And that’s okay, because Star Wars has always been kid-friendly, and why not have a Star Wars-themed kids show? But it’s not an adult show about kids like Stranger Things or Paper Girls. It’s more like a show designed specifically to appeal to 10-year-olds and no one else.
Skeleton Crew starts in the suburbs
It’s a Star Wars suburb, but take away the robots and aliens and it could be where I grew up. So that was an interesting twist for a moment or two. Unfortunately, these suburbs are filled with boring characters with unpleasant problems.
Will it get better when Jude Law shows up?
And yes, this is all a build up to the big moment at the end of the first episode, but I was so bored with that first episode that halfway through I just started skipping ahead and even the last act felt – meh. Perhaps. But I feel like if the first episode of a series is so boring that I can’t stand it, it probably won’t improve very soon.
